Approximately two to six million women, men and children have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. This debilitating disease is most commonly associated with women than men. Fibromyalgia symptoms could be from physical trauma such as an automobile accident, unusual and extreme emotional trauma or stress, infections, rheumatoid arthritis, or lupus. Fibromyalgia symptoms seem to manifest between the ages of 20 and 50.
Many times, patients that suffer with fibromyalgia have other medical conditions or disorders that will occur later or in conjunction with FMS. One of the most common disorders associated with the medical condition fibromyalgia is TMJ, a disorder associated with the jaw.
What is the TMJ?
TMJ (Temporo Mandibular Joint) or jaw joint connects the jawbone to the skull. The TMJ is Located at the sides of the head near each ear. These joints play an essential role in eating, speaking, and making facial expressions. In fact, the temporomandibular joint ( TMJ) is one of the most frequently used and complex joints in the entire human body.
Also many sufferers of fibro may be diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, as well. Some patients also complain of severe migraine or tension headaches, irritable bowel and bladder syndromes.
Some women may also develop a loss in memory and concentration. This is also known as Fibrofog. Fibrocystic Breast Disease and Endometriosis is often present in women that are suffering from fibromyalgia symptoms despite the fact that there has been no medical or scientific studies conducted by the medical community regarding the association of the two.
